Our good buddy, Spectre, wrote a very nice review for Rise of Flight a WWI air combat sim.

Check it out: Rise of Flight Review.

Good review, thanks!

I had my wires crossed when we were discussing this sim a few weeks back.....somebody mentioned a Russian developer and I piped up that I thought it was 777 Studios. After rechecking my facts, it seems that the developer is indeed Russian......777 Studios is the North American publisher. My bad.

Why thanky, MadMan.

I reckon at the end of the week we'll know which way the wind will blow on this one.

If things are fixed, it bodes well.

If they include the 2 most famous icons of the air war, the Sopwith Camel and the Dr.1 for free, it will bode EXCEEDINGLY well.

If it comes back AFU, and the symbols of the great war round out the dozen being offered for $7.62 each, it may just go down
in flames in a more permanent fashion, IMHO.

Now where DID you get that handle?

Good review, just doesn't sound like the sort of frustration I want to purchase.

I picked it up in college in '77. After a long night of gin and trying to understand calculus with a couple of guys from across the hall in the dorm, I started mumbling about how it was all just madness......which led to one of them calling me Madman.......and it stuck.

Gin and calculus? Why didn't I think of that combination?

I wish I hadn't.........the calculus would have probably been a lot easier to understand without the gin. :D

I made it through two days of calculus in college. I knew I was in trouble when the professor walked in. He looked like Mr. Spock. Not Leonard Nimoy, he actually looked like Spock, but without the pointy ears. After two days of trying to keep up (he wrote on the blackboard with his right hand, the eraser followed in his left hand) I gave up and switched my elective to "the history of South America, part 1".

Just so's ya know, they released patch 1.008, weighing in at 309 MB.

I flew a couple of flights, and it looks even nicer, and the sniper AI is no longer present.

I had hoped, as mentioned, that Snoopy and the Red Baron would be included with the download, which they were, but not as
flyables. It'll cost 8 bucks a pop for that privilege.

I just wish they'd sent me this version to check out, as I would have been bubbling and gushing all over the place.

Now, off I go to see if I can finally finish the training mission, as the campaign is back up to snuff...

Spec,

We can always tag on a follow-up to the review if you like. Send me a paragraph or two and I'll add it at the bottom of the piece :)

Good Review...

I TOTALLY agree that getting Internet permission from the 'Politburo' before the game will start is unacceptable..

Piracy is BS... But SO IS RIDICULOUS DRM THAT PUNISHES THE PAYING CUSTOMER

I will never purchase another game with this kind of DRM...

RoF has been removed from my hard drive... and it won't go back on...

Its a shame... had the developers/distributors avoided anal-cranial interface they may have had a real successor to the IL2 series... unfortunately RoF is a $50.00 game that I can't/won't play..

"anal-cranial interface"

Anybody that brings such fascinating new terminology is more than welcome here, B-Camel!

I may just do that.

I haven't actually had time to fire it up since I wrote that last snippet, been busy as a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest
here at work. New program rolled out to all branches in the Country always leads to issues.

Things are settling now, and I look forward to another flight or few soon.

I will say, however, this will not get my 5 star seal of approval with the DRM still on there, no matter how well the sim runs...

16 years in the USAF flying jets... I heard it somewhere... the best cure is to firmly grasp both earlobes and give a good, firm pull... if the treatment is successful... a much clearer perspective is generally available to the victim of this terrible malady..

Now you've done it!

I declare! You'll be the most popular girl at the cotillion now that you've let that slip.

Okay, out with it ... details, we need details. :)
