I see in todays local (San Diego) paper that the UK plans to build 2 new CV's over the next decade which they state wil be nearly 3 times the size of anything they now have. They'll be named the HMS Queen Elizabeth and the HMS Prince of Whales and weigh 65k tons, about the same as the JFK, I believe. They're slated to enter service in 2014 and 2016. No mention of the proposed air wings.

I see that site lists "Full Load" tonnage, whatever that is. I was looking at the Harpoon DB, which lists 64700 tons.

I'm not doubting you, Boats, just explaining. To be honest, I've heard of displacement tonnage, gross tonnage, deadweight tonnage, etc for years without really knowing what the differences between them are. Full load tonnage is a new one for me, though.

I'll believe those new flat-tops when I see them in Portsmouth (UK) harbour. Mr McBrown (unelected Prime Minister) will call a snap election while his ratings are high and if he wins there will be another spending review and what will go?
