I just downloaded and installed b23c1 and I seem to have lost a large portion of the game. The PE no longer seems to exist, and the SE gives me a Windows hourglass for about 2 seconds and then nothing. It never does load. The new installation directory lacks many entries, including the subfolders commondb, db_utils, and WindowFix. Is anyone else having this problem?

I dunno about you Buddha  , these are beta things for the AGSI beta forum but anyway, that hasn't stopped us before :). AGSI has this thing about not including the platform editor and db_utils in the main install, something I entirely disagree with and have made the requisite Mantis (bug tracking system) entries to that regard and chatted with Don Gilman about when he asked my thoughts. I expect at this time it is more the tail (Cameron making installers) catching up with the head rather than a conscious and purposeful exclusion of the platform editor and db_utils. Actually there are a number of installer things that totally baffle me, nothing like jeopardizing the whole game experience with a wacky installer, but I digress.

As for the SE, does the same happen once you have restarted your computer? A few people have had trouble but I can't make the thing not load, I've tried Windows 2000, XP, and Vista, so there may be something going on but it is obscure as yet. I think it is time to start a thread at the AGSI forum for this and start explaining system specs and such.

Oh, and just to be sure you've been thru it, you might try the BattlesetPath registry entry and see if that makes a difference for you as well.

Tony, if I'd thought I was encountering a bug, I would have gone through Mantis as you suggest. The reason I came here was that it struck me as a unique problem with my own installation and I was looking for some advice, which I fortunately got from you. Another restart seems to have solved the problem. I'm familiar with the other thread you mentioned, but in this case I wasn't getting any error messages or anything else. After trying to run the SE I got an arrow/hourglass cursor for a few seconds followed by nothing. I'll never forgive MS for their incessant restart requirements, but I guess we have to live with it. As to downloading the db_utils separately, I'm used to it by now and do it without thinking. Not a problem for old hands like us, but when the final release comes on the market I sure hope they plan on an installer that loads all the required files, not to mention doing something about the short cut labels. Why in the world does the Orders Writer come up as Harpoon Commanders Edition Tools? I also notice that I still have to manually create a shortcut to the PE. A user not used to MS Access is never going to figure that one out on his own. Some guy surfing or shopping who decides to purchase Harpoon without being familiar with it isn't going to appreciate separate downloads and will probably expect to install the game and have everything ready to go.

Thanx for your help:
