The Navy retired the F-14 Tomcat from active service today. This probably raises memories for some here. It's definitely the end of an era.
So now it's the era of the Hornet and the Super Hornet. Hope they can handle it.

 To a great warrior!
You were the chosen one. It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them. You were to bring balance to the force, not leave it in darkness.

As an AIC, I worked with the F-4 and later the F-14, among other fine aircraft. I left the Service without having the opportunity to work with the F/A-18, so I can't comment competently on it's capabilities. I truly mourn the passage of an old warplane, but I have to believe that the talent and caliber of the crew is what wins in the end.

Banjo, Thunder, Rattler, and all your brothers, do you hear me?

Agreed Mike the Hornet is a fine aircraft. Despite all the doomsayers the future of USN avaition looks bright.

Super Hornet, Growler, F-35, MH-60S and R... MMA.

Still the F-14 was a great looking aircraft and I wish I could have seen and heard one fly :(
Cheers
